Quartz
Created by combining 95-percent natural stone with 5-percent polymer resins, manmade quartz is a super-hard, low maintenance surface with the look and feel of natural stone. It is non-porous and does not need to be resealed.
Some familiar brands include: Cambria, Silestone, Caesarstone, Zodiaq, HanStone, Viatera, and Radianz. Quartz surfacing material is approximately 93% pure quartz crystals, which gives the product depth and radiance without the imperfections of natural stone. Quartz is also one of the strongest minerals making quartz surfacing extremely durable and scratch resistant. Another great thing about Quartz is that it is virtually maintenance free.
Stain Resistance – Quartz combines the non-porous surface with natural materials to make for a virtual maintenance free product. The smooth, nonporous surface of quartz resists even the toughest stains and will retain its luster for many years without the need for sealants or waxes.
Heat Resistance – Quartz surfacing is heat resistant. However, it is not heat proof. We do not recommend setting any extremely hot cookware directly on any countertop surface. The extreme change in temperature can cause damage. A hot pad or trivet is always recommended.
Scratches– Because of the high content of naturally hard crystals, quartz can withstand many cuts and abrasions that would otherwise scratch your surface. Although we don’t recommend using it as a cutting board, this material is very resistant to cutting and abrasion.
Impact – Although quartz can withstand impact, if and when some a hard impact does occur, edges can chip.
Food Safety – NSF International has certified the brand, Cambria, for use as a food preparation surface. Cambria is non-porous, making cleanup easy and preventing food and moisture from penetrating its surface.
